Why Choose Summit Air Heating & Cooling

We send HVAC technicians, not salespeople. Every estimate comes from someone who can assess your system, answer technical questions, and do the work themselves. Our team is EPA-certified, follows ACCA standards for system design and installation, and has been serving Southwest Montana since 2019.

If a repair will keep your system running, we’ll say so. If replacement makes more sense, we’ll explain why. You’ll know what the work involves and what it costs before we start.

Areas We Serve

Summit Air Heating & Cooling is based in Bozeman and serves homeowners and commercial customers throughout Southwest Montana, including Belgrade, Three Forks, Ennis, Manhattan, Livingston, and Big Sky.

We understand the climate extremes that come with living in Southwest Montana and what they demand from your heating and cooling equipment.

HVAC Systems for Montana Weather

Southwest Montana’s extreme climate puts real demands on heating and cooling equipment. Winters run long and cold, with stretches of sub-zero temperatures that push furnaces and heat pumps to their limits. Summers are short but can bring weeks of 90-degree heat, wildfire smoke, and high-altitude sun that works air conditioners harder than most equipment is rated for.

We design, install, and service HVAC systems with those tough conditions in mind, whether that means properly sizing a furnace for a Gallatin Valley winter or recommending the right filtration setup for wildfire season.

Common HVAC Questions

  • The best time to schedule HVAC maintenance in Montana is before the summer and winter seasons start. Spring is best for AC service, and early fall is great for heating service. That gives you a chance to catch small issues before heating and cooling demands put your system under the most stress.

  • Check your filter once a month, especially during winter and summer when your system is working harder. If it looks dirty, change it. At a minimum, most homeowners should replace it every three months, and some homes need more frequent changes if they have pets, dust, or heavy system use.

  • Repair usually makes sense when the issue is limited to a specific component and everything else is still in good shape. Replacement starts to enter the conversation when your equipment needs frequent repairs, struggles to keep your home comfortable, or your energy bills keep climbing.

Summit’s approach is to repair equipment whenever possible and recommend replacement only when it is the better long-term option.

  • Before you call, make sure the thermostat is set to Cool and below the current room temperature, check whether the breaker has tripped, look at the air filter to see if it is dirty, and make sure the outdoor unit is not blocked by debris. If all of that looks normal and the system still is not cooling, it is time to schedule service.

  • We service all HVAC brands. For new equipment, Summit installs RUUD furnaces and offers Midea, Mitsubishi, and Fujitsu mini-splits. Summit also installs and services Heat N Glo fireplaces.
